You
Have you ever read a self-help book? One of my favourites is How to Talk to Anyone by Leil Lowndes.
It’s full of fun, easily understandable tips to be a good conversationalist. One of my favourites is the “Big Baby Pivot.” Basically, turn fully to the person you are speaking to. Let your body language show you are giving them 100% of your attention. This makes them feel special. We all like to be listened to, to hold the rapturous attention of someone.
We all see the world through our own eyes. How could it be any different?
We are all the centre of how we engage in the world.
This isn’t about lack of empathy. It’s about being in your own body, looking at the world with your own eyes and processing information through your own brain.
What on earth does this have to do with copywriting?
It makes “you” a very powerful word. How does this product, service or experience affect you, the buyer?
Using the word “you” make whatever you are saying or selling immediately relevant to the person you’re speaking to.
It shows you understand their personal needs and wants. You have taken the time to think about them and present something wonderful for their opinion.
Heady stuff!
So, don’t be afraid to speak directly to a potential or existing customer. That’s the sort of marketing that will draw them in and want to listen to what you have to say. Or read what you have written. Compelling copywriting and digital content speak to the person they want to listen. The more personal, the better.
Speak to someone who is already interesting in what you have to offer, target them and show them how you can make their life better.
It’s all about them. Or you.
You know what I mean!
